Stones and Sun is a beautiful landscape of the Negev in midday painted in bright reds, browns and oranges. A massive sun is shining fiercely on a dry and stony ground. Its decorative and flat depiction demonstrates Ardon’s interest in expressing the holiness, mysterious and intangible nature of the land of Israel rather than using perspective or elements of depth in his prints. The compelling colors of the land of Israel captivated Ardon along with many other Jewish artists who arrived from cold and gray Europe.
