Moshe Tamir was born in 1924 in Odessa, Russia. He immigrated to Israel in 1931. He studied at the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem, and in 1949-52 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, painting and fresco. He became a teacher at the Bezalel School of Art and later its director. He was nominated as Inspector of Art Teaching at the Ministry of Education and Culture. He won several honorary prizes, among them the Herman Struck Prize in 1947, the Prize for a Young Artist in 1949 and the Prize for Graphic Art in 1961. On the same year he participated in the Sao Paulo Biennale. Tamir had died in 2004.
