Pomegranates is a still-life lithograph showing succulent reddish pomegranates set on a table. The entire room, the tablecloth and the fruits are colored in a vibrant red, the color of seduction, health and freshness. The opening window that reveals rural scenery along with the fresh fruits demonstrate Rubin’s attempt to celebrate the prosperous yield of the land of milk and honey. The pomegranate has a significance in the Jewish religion for it represents one of Shivat Haminim, the Seven Plants of the Holy Land. In addition, the pomegranate has connotation with the Jewish New Year tradition of Rosh-Hashana.
