New immigrants in the Desert comprises 10 lithographs that were issued in 100 copies, signed, numbered and hand-colored by the artist himself. The album includes an introduction in English and Hebrew.
In this series Bezem presented two figures, two worlds, a man and a woman. Besides them are the lion of Judah, the miracle fitted with wheels, the little village waiting in the heart of the desert, a fish bearing a burden of patience and the Sabbath candles above the magic ladder. Bezem’s line is at once accurate, poignant, tense and lyrical. He achieved a radical economy of line and a mature and balance mode of expression. A man and a woman, a realistic man and a legendary, imaginary woman.
